To Grandfather, Goodbye, Tanka for Reading It

This is a tanka, which is a form of short, classical Japanese poetry, consisting of 5-7-5-7-7 syllables and may typically have some aspect of nature. It’s a little offbeat from my open box of free verse…have I discovered what it means to show emotion? To have a heart? I ask that you bear with my foolishness for I am still growing as a poet and a storyteller. But all jokes and folly aside, I wrote this thinking of my grandfather who departed to heaven or hell. Peace out grandpa!

I will be waiting,
I will be observing you,
One last time my friend,
Burn and Blazing Glorified,
Through the test of time you stand.
